Dennis Clifford is Of Counsel at Oberti Sullivan. A nationally known wage and hour lawyer, Dennis works with the Firm on complex overtime and minimum wage issues.
Dennis began his career as an associate, and then partner, at Seyfarth Shaw LLP, where he also served as the Chair of the Houston office's Labor and Employment Section. After 12 years at Seyfarth, he decided to form a strategic alliance with his good friends and former partners at Oberti Sullivan in 2017.
Dennis is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also a faculty member with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (“NITA”) and a former instructor of trial advocacy at the University of Houston Law Center. For the past several years, he has been named a “Super Lawyer,” a Thompson Reuters Service printed in Texas Monthly. Chambers USA wrote that he has “noted expertise in unpaid compensation litigation.”
Dennis excels at representing clients in complex collective-action lawsuits concerning unpaid wages. He has been lead or co-counsel on many high-profile matters, including several “bet-the-company” cases. Dennis regularly advises clients on compensation issues, including exempt-status classifications, bonus and commission plans, day-rate plans, travel pay, training pay, per diem pay, and pre- and post-shift activities.
Dennis has substantial experience litigating discrimination, harassment, and retaliation lawsuits. He is well versed in the Texas Labor Code, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, Title VII, and the Sarbanes–Oxley Act. He also regularly counsels clients on hiring practices, workplace investigations, drug testing, workplace privacy, corrective actions, leaves-of-absence, employment agreements, trade secrets, and non-compete and non-solicitation matters.
