Clifford is a former partner at Seyfarth Shaw LLP. In that role, he also served as the chair of Seyfarth’s labor and employment department in Houston. After 12 years with the firm, Clifford decided to form a strategic alliance with his good friends at Oberti Sullivan LLP.
Clifford is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also a faculty member with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (“NITA”) and a former instructor of trial advocacy at the University of Houston Law Center. For the past several years, he has been named a “Super Lawyer,” a Thompson Reuters Service printed in Texas Monthly, and he was recently profiled by Chambers USA for his “noted expertise in unpaid compensation litigation.”
Clifford excels at representing clients in class-action lawsuits concerning unpaid wages. He has been lead or co-counsel on many high-profile matters, including several “bet-the-company" cases. Clifford also regularly advises clients on compensation issues, including exempt-status classifications, bonus and commission plans, day-rate plans, travel pay, training pay, per diem pay, and pre- and post-shift activities.
Clifford has substantial experience litigating discrimination, harassment, and retaliation lawsuits. He is well versed in the Texas Labor Code, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, Title VII, and the Sarbanes–Oxley Act. He also regularly counsels clients on hiring practices, workplace investigations, drug testing, workplace privacy, corrective actions, leaves-of-absence, employment agreements, trade secrets, and non-compete and non-solicitation matters.
